What classes will my child take in 6th grade? 7th grade? 8th grade?

In middle school, students will take core courses in Math, Individuals & Societies, Science (or Living Environment for Grade 8), and Language & Literature each year. Starting in 6th grade, they are required to learn Spanish as a second language. In 6th and 7th grades, students will also take Technology and Art, which may be scheduled for either the first or second half of the year. Health, FACS (Family and Consumer Sciences), and Physical Education are required for the entire year.

In 8th grade, students will enroll in Integrated Arts, a year-long course combining Art, Music, and Library studies, in addition to Physical Education and Living Environment Lab. Throughout their middle school years, students must participate in a music course, choosing from General Music, Chorus, or Band, and may opt to take both Chorus and Band if they wish.

Students might be required to take intervention classes in Literacy and/or Math to enhance their understanding of these subjects. In Grades 7 and 8, they may have a Team Study Hall for homework completion and teacher support, while 6th graders may have an Extension class to further their learning in Math and Language & Literature. All students will have a 30-minute lunch period.
