As your child prepares to transition from middle school to high school, we are excited to inform you about the high school-level coursework opportunities available right here in our school.

These programs are designed to give students a head start on their high school education, helping them build a strong academic foundation and earn credits before they even enter high school.

The courses span three (3) categories: Mathematics, Science, and World Languages.

Mathematics: Students can enroll in Algebra in Grade 8. Successfully completing this course allows students to start high school with a credit already earned. Students can begin their acceleration journey with a prequel class that begins in the fourth marking period of their Grade 6 year, in order to try out the pace and level of difficulty of accelerated programming.

Science: All Grade 8 students enroll in Living Environment as their science course. This course provides a comprehensive introduction to Regents Science course work and culminates in the first Regents test-taking opportunity for most MS students. Passing the Regents Exam and course earns students 1 course credit toward their Pal-Mac diploma.

World Languages: Students began world language coursework in kindergarten. At PMMS, students take a deeper dive into the Spanish language beginning in Grade 6. At the end of the 8th grade year, students take a State-required exam that will earn them high school credit when the exam is successfully passed. Earning a language credit in middle school will allow students to pursue higher levels of language study in high school. Having earned 1 credit in world languages can allow some students to pursue a pathway to graduation in other areas.
